Having played literally thousands of games of each Dota 1, not I’ve been debating this with some friends who are still hooked on LoL, and they can’t really refute the points I make. Summoner Spells LoL obviously has them, Dota doesn’t. After playing a few hundred games, I realize how terrible they were for the flow of gameplay. Flash is the worst offender of them all. It’s a crutch for bad gameplay.
That is not something to write off as a terrible decision. I feel like You need to get the chip off your shoulder in regards to the competitive community. It seems like the last argument was similar in nature, you were complaining about how people wanted a ranked system and wanted to be able to show off their achievements. Let me ask you, if you play to win, why do you hate the idea of showing off your greatest achievements or having something to show for it?

May 16, Dota is brutal. Ignoring everyone didn’t work at all for me since I’d end up getting reported for, presumably, not engaging in bullshit and ending up in low priority over and over again. This was around MMR. After taking a break for about a year I recently went back to the game with a new approach; the more toxic and unfriendly a player is the more friendly and encouraging I am to them.
I never get defensive, always type “my bad” especially when it clearly wasn’t but I still get accused and promise to do better if anyone has a problem with the way I’m playing. I commend the worst of the bunch and usually get commended back even if they told me to kill myself like 5 minutes ago.
Normal matchmaking is totally random, right
Tweet Share May 4, With similar business plans and game feature innovation, Riot Games appears to be borrowing a lot of ideas from Valve. Sean Knight looks at the evidence League of Legends has become one of the most popular games to play over the past couple of years. Especially with the latest news about LoL expecting to have an AI-directed camera.
In terms of gameplay and accessibility, my research thus far shows that LoL features a dizzying array of champions to master, nearly a dozen more than Dota 2 and nearly twice as .
Comments Shares Thanks to Valve, Dota 2 players that take their rank seriously have a chance to stop seeing blue. The rank disparity seems to go both ways: Even players using smurfs in lower accounts can feel accomplished if their higher-level team carries them to victory. Already, though, criticism has arisen about the obstacles that the system creates for aspiring professional players. Dota 2 players are hoping for the same results. Some are concerned that the phone system isolates players in much poorer regions.
Since the Dota 2 authentication system only requires a basic telephone, most players will likely avoid this issue. Even age may not be an issue. In America, at least, the average age of initial smartphone ownership was estimated at about 10 years old , which may not be too far off for other countries as parents rush to keep their kids caught up with their peers.
HotS’s Matchmaking/Ladder system vs LoL, Dota2 : heroesofthestorm
Essentially matches are supposed to be balanced and fun. One of the main factors it takes into account for all this is the MMR. Of these, solo ranked has been the cause of a lot of my recent misery. There are guides on what types of heroes to play to give you the best chance of scoring a victory.
Once you are good at LoL you can easily transition into a beginner in DotA 2. This is how I did and now I have started to enjoy DotA 2 much more. Each game has respective strength and weaknesses; neither is inherently better or worse than the other.
The most commonly used metrics In some ways, the sunken-cost fallacy. The most popular, and perhaps the least convincing metric of all. Which has been shown to be stronger than most monetary or moral incentives. Next up, the “good guy” metrics. The ones that make you feel like you aren’t supporting an evil company. While both games allow paying and non-paying players to compete on the same level, LoL vastly limits your choices. In DotA, everything is always available. Not-so in LoL, without spending vast amounts of money, or more hours than a full-time job.
Dota, by an extreme margin. Because you don’t want to feel like you’re supporting a thief. LoL is mostly original content. DotA2 copied a free game akin to re-writing Harry Potter and then selling it if it was being offered for free. But if you’re speaking of Dota2, then LoL. Metrics that should matter but which not enough people care about Interaction with other players.

The problem is those articles were written by people that didn’t actually get into DotA 2 and they basically had no idea what they are talking about. On the other hand, there are a lot of elitist statements by DotA veterans that act like douchebags calling LoL causal, kiddy, etc. I played both of these games a LOT and I want to try to compare them without any prejudice and without stating which one of them is better.
Dec 18, · HoN: Faster paced and more action than DotA. Also less leavers than on DotA. LoL: More forgiving and easier to pick up on than the above 2. Also less leavers than on DotA. Because in LoL they actually have a matchmaking feature for bot games, which makes it very casual friendly. LoL, DotA 2, HoN advice for a noob; Posting Permissions.
My answer will undoubtedly be Dota 2 biased because after playing both I feel that it is by far the better competitive game. However, I also believe that everything I say will be accurate- if anything isn’t, or you feel there’s something I’ve missed or should clarify, please point it out and I’m happy to change it. Hopefully I’ve made this worth reading. Within the games Metagame Dota 2 has an incredibly versatile metagame.
Junglers are optional, with dual or unorthodox junglers presenting themselves at times. Trilanes, where three allied heroes on the same team group remain in close proximity from the beginning of the game, as well as roamers, where one or more heroes has no set place on the map and moves about as needed, are both common. Lanes and roles are incredibly fluid to the point where attempting to define many heroes, or even predicting how a single 5-hero composition will lane, becomes difficult.
League of Legends has a relatively stable metagame. Convention dictates that an AD carry and a support go bottom, an AP carry goes mid, and a sustainer goes top, with the 5th man- an all but required jungler, left to his devices. These roles have not changed in at least a year of high level gameplay and across multiple tournaments. League of Legends also introduced the concept of Summoner spells, which on the surface is an excellent addition to the depth of the genre.
However, the power of “Flash,” a short-distance blink spell, makes it all but required by every player, essentially just adding a high cooldown blink to every hero. The majority of Summoner spells are simply copies of items or abilities in Dota 2.
DotA 2 vs League of Legends, MOBA Tale
Dota 2 patch adjusts matchmaking to zero in on a smaller percentage of toxic players After several months of broken matchmaking, Dota 2’s queues are getting a much-needed fix. Dota 2 Writer Image via Valve The Dota 2 community has been very vocal about issues with the game’s matchmaking system for a while now. Several months ago, Valve implemented a new criteria for matchmaking called “behavior score,” which matches players based on their in-game behavior towards teammates and opponents—sometimes more so than actual matchmaking rating MMR.
This has been causing some games to have players with wildly varying MMR values, thus creating a frustrating gameplay experience where high-skilled players are matched with those who aren’t as well-versed with the game.
For Dota 2 on the PC, a GameFAQs message board topic titled “Normal matchmaking is totally random, right?”.
Since im an adc main, that was one of the reasons i went back to league after playing some dota. What most would probably say is that in dota 2, a lot of things feel very powerful, but that itself balances it out, because most things are. This for newcomers however, would be more likely to cause frustruation than League does. In league you dont really have that. League overall is much more approachable for a new comer.
In reality you need to learn what each champion is capable of. And then have the brain to google some efficient item builds for your character. Dota 2 on the other hand, is much more complex to even get into. On top of heroes alone, jungle is much more complex, laning is more complex.
Dota 2 vs. LoL
Little action against game ruiners and people who are overly rude in chat. In Dota 2, if you get reported in 3 games or get an abandon by leaving 3 games or not gaining XP for 5 minutes in 3 games you have to do games of low priority, where you have to deal with like minded people, lengthy matchmaking time, and only 3 heroes, 1 for each attribute, to choose from. Oh and you have to win. Thus the fear with having to deal with that hell helps decently with the trolls and jerks. And a lot of my games have had people who intentionally fed or went AFK or did their best to ruin the game in some other way.
Out of all this I’ve gotten 2 notifications that action was taken.
Oct 25, · LoL is a complete copy of Dota (5v5 games, 3 lanes, same objective, same everything with some twists to please children) and that alone makes Dota way better than that POS will ever be. In my humble opinion.
MOBA fans find this kind of article interesting only reason to reinforce their own belief that their game is best. Map found a large enough fan base which poured into the next game. This was the mod that got a huge fan base evolved into a huge competitive scene and become one of the most successful mods of all time.
It was propelled by a number of large names within its community and this is where League of Legends and DotA 2 to start coming in. Meian and Ragnor never really intended for doing much more other than creating their mod. MEN to be honored Guinsoo enjoyed playing Dota-Allstars, but he thought the model could be improved upon a bit. He would be the one to introduce many elements that virtually all MOBA games have today. Switching the game focused player vs player rather than vs co-op.
Adding items to improve scaling giving variety and famously adding a boss monster named Roshan after his bowling ball. Guinsoo would make DotA-Allstars a lot more popular and really begin to take the series off.
